Cyanotype in wooden frame, touched by the sun!

CARPË was created within the Swabdesign studio, a designer and manufacturer of home accessories founded by Carolin and Pierre Carpentier in 2010. The beauty of noble and natural materials, classic sensitivity and contemporary style are the very essence of this new brand of high-end products. For the launch, Carolin returns to her roots as a graphic designer. A graduate of Penninghen Paris, she is passionate about photography and the technique of cyanotype in a wooden frame was obvious to her.

Ciel bleu avec nuage blanc et des rayons de soleil

The cyanotype process is a printing technique that we wanted to bring up to date. We live in a digital age where we feel the need for connection with nature and craftsmanship using a natural light source: the sun!

The process was invented in 1842. Its invention was initially adopted by botanists for the purpose of illustrating plant specimens. Then the process was used mainly as a reprographic system, especially for technical drawings.

Our cyanotypes in wooden frames are made on high quality Bristol paper coated with a light sensitive product. The carefully chosen subjects will be exposed on this paper in sunlight. Rinsed with clear water the process is stopped to bring out a bright Prussian blue print without any ink.

Our cyanotypes are handmade, mounted in their natural wood frames with a copper signature. As each cyanotype is made manually, the shades of blue vary subtly and make the painting absolutely unique. The pieces are numbered.
